wiki-fy this website. Individual "ownership" of mountain pages doesn't make any sense.
turn this into a wiki. Anybody can make any changes to any mountain page.
Far too radical of a change from the culture of the site.

While that sounds like a neat idea, SP is way to far in to make a radical change like this. The damage of people leaving would be incalculable. I personally would enjoy such a system. It will most likely never happen. So what needs to take place is a way to improve the current situation with bad pages.
This will never happen. It goes against the culture of SummitPost and would alienate far too many people. There have been suggestions to make the site "more wiki" in the following two ways:
1) Change the page adoption process so that people can take over pages that lack information more easily.

2) Make a small section at the bottom of the page, just above the images, wiki so that anyone can add content to it.
